Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is held that the uninhibited and balanced flow of ones Qi (vital energy) and Blood maintains the health and vitality of the body which can be seen in the face. Qi holds our organs and tissues in place, against the pull of gravity, giving tone to our soft tissues, such as skin. It also generates blood and stimulates its circulation. In turn our Blood nourishes and moistens our skin.
What causes our face to age?
With age Qi and Blood gradually decline and fail to nourish and moisten our skin as effectively causing it to dry out, wrinkle and sag. The appearance of wrinkles, puffy or dark bags under the eyes, or a dry, dull complexion and sagging skin, are caused by a combination of factors as we age, Dehydration, loss of connective tissue tone, poor circulation, deficient tissue nutrition, and tensions in the underlying muscles which relate to emotional expression in the face all contribute to our decline.
How does it work?
The acupuncture channel network is like an irrigation system in the body bringing moisture and nutrients to all the bodies tissues. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture specifically uses a combination of acupoints on the face & body to balance your energy (qi) which has the effect of releasing muscular tension and improving skin tone by enhancing blood flow, hence improving tissue hydration, tone and nutrition. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture provides a gentle and holistic treatment to counteract the effects of stress and ageing on the face.
What does it involve?
Between 10-15 incredibly fine sterile stainless steel acupuncture needles are superficially inserted into various acupoints on the skin surface of the face which are then left in place for about 45 minutes. Initially a course of six treatments are required at weekly intervals and thereafter top up treatments are recommended once or twice a month.
What can I expect to feel during
One may feel a variety of sensations, including tension or tightness around the needles, tingling, warmth, or heaviness in the face, or even a feeling as if there is a delicate net draped over your face which is an awareness of the network of interconnected acupuncture channels criss-crossing the face.
What can I expect to feel after a
After the treatment you should feel generally relaxed and refreshed, your body may feel either heavy or light and be accompanied by a feeling of glowing warmth in the face.
Is it safe?
All acupuncture needles used are EC approved pre-sterilised disposable stainless needles for single use only. Rarely, a small bruise may occur at the site of an acupoint, these are harmless and disappear within a few days.
‘Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is very calming and relaxes both my body and mind. I feel the laugh lines around my eyes have diminished making me feel younger and more confident. Other people notice the difference and comment on it. My face feels firmer and my skin feels wonderful.’
